conventions and communities
There are hundreds of events for people who are part of the body modification community. A place where many people for the modded world and un modded world join together in a huge community to have fun and feel safe and also interact with people of a similar nature and ideology. The collective culture of body modification is loose and difficult to pin down, at times. Rather than offering up some systematic world view, the general subculture revolves around identification. Since a self-identified and coherent culture self-referential “modified culture” is emerging, it is not usually organised formally and politically, in comparison to black, queer, or feminist culture, for example- the most obvious cultural marker is the modified body. This lack of formalization- or status as an organized social movement- makes their sub cultural identity of central importance, especially when that identity is put into question, or is used explicitly to judge one’s cultural or personal experience. This makes the conventions and organisation a huge importance of the modified society. As like our society there is a hierachical structure although it is much more loose. There are people that hold respect and are looked up to, even though it could be argued that their society is much more equal and fair.
